Tekken 5 ps212/11/2022 Yeah, Jin was broken, but most people playing at a casual level with their friends only know that because they read it on the internet. I give it tons of credit for trying so much new stuff, even if not everything worked. Tekken 4 wasn't flawless by any means, but it's so much better than it gets credit for. Boasting an improved fighting engine, speedier combos, and a return to the old-school Tekken stage design, Tekken 5 boasts more than 30 diverse combatants with dozens. Still in my opinion the best Tekken port ever.īoo to all the Tekken 4 haters, though. Tekken 5 (Ultimate Collectors Edition) Already revered in the arcades for its personable characters, explosive graphics, and lightning-fast gameplay, Tekken 5 delivers the same intense fighting action home to the PlayStation 2. Best intro ever, solid story mode with endings for everyone, T1-T3, Devil Within, all the old Tekken 2 modes including team battle - it felt so packed and complete. It's not arcade perfect graphically, but it's damn close, and the value is ridiculous. The PS2 port was so much better than I thought it could ever be. The game was beautiful, definitely a graphical leap up from SC2, and the core gameplay was so solid that every Tekken afterwards has just made little iterative changes to it, so you can go back and play it now and it still feels like modern Tekken. The arcade release was incredibly hype with the card system and PS2 controller ports - it was such a great setup. The music felt alive and the game had some 90's neon vibe to it, Id love another tekken in that style, 7 was the worst in that regard, they totally butchered the story and some of the character designs are plain bad. The plot was a big part with both prologue epilogue and endings and it had some of the best endings (Paul's ending its on of the best for all the series imho). The stages where beautiful, the character redesign felt great and they felt more human and "alive". What 4 did great though was everything else. Also it was kinda disappointing with only 19 characters, maybe its the tekken with the smallest cast released on console ? Don't remember how many characters T1 had but at that time both 2,3 and tag had more. Namco went all out with the console version, presenting a badass intro (generously updated from the arcade version), Jin Kazama's 'Devil Within' mini-game (a fun third-person play-through backed with pretty sweet soundtrack), extra costumes. Tekken 5 on PS2 was no doubt an awesome package at the time. Also a few words about 4.the gameplay is bad or better yet in an era where you couldn't patch things there were some fatal problems that they didnt think of like the walls infinite, damage with not a lot of scaling etc, add to this T4 Jin and Steve that would have been broken even without the mechanics of the game and you have a great shitstorm. The PS2 version of Tekken 5 includes all the greatness from the arcade version, and then some.
